BENGALURU: Byrati Basavaraj, Minister of Urban Development, Government of Karnataka, issued a notice for the commissioners of 10 major cities, excluding Bengaluru, to direct its workforce to ensure cleanliness at their centres on Monday, August 16. While making the announcement, he mentioned the constant complaints regarding lack of sanitation in urban centres.
He expressed special concern about solid waste and the lack of a system for its management. Basavaraj said that the issue needs to be systematically addressed and guidelines should be followed regularly.
The selected cities also have a serious lack of solid waste management, urban commute system, proper roads and footpaths. The Minister directed the officials to update the cities’ basic infrastructure.
Basavaraj said that he assigned the work to contractors and has asked them to submit the final project in the given time frame.
