BENGALURU: K Sudhakar, Minister of Health and Education, Government of Karnataka, announced that ‘Lasika Utsav’ (vaccination camps) will be conducted every Wednesday, and 10 lakh doses will be administered. He said in a press conference that the arrangements will be made in the vicinity of slums to fully vaccinate slum-dwellers.

Sudhakar said that the target of the state government is to fully vaccinate the entire adult population of the state by the end of 2021. He added that in August, the state had gotten 1.10 crores of vaccines from the Government of India on the request of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Sudhakar said that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has administered over one crore doses in Bengaluru so far. He added that the state government is targeting to make Bengaluru the first city in India to be fully vaccinated. As Bengaluru was the epicentre of the COVID-19 infection in the state during the first and second wave, vaccinating the entire population in the state is the only way to tackle the third wave.

As part of the weekly ‘Lasika Utsav’, more healthcare personnel will be deployed in the slum areas of the state to carry out COVID-19 vaccination. Sudhakar said that Bidar, Yadgir, Raichur and Kalaburagi are some of the districts lagging behind and special vaccination drives will be planned for these areas.
