BENGALURU: Former Chief Minister of Karnataka Jagadish Shettar reviewed the progress of projects in twin cities under the Smart City Scheme and informed on Tuesday, September 28, that they will be open for public use soon. He said that the development works at Tolana Kere and Indira Glass House will be completed in the coming month and open for the public shortly after.

Shettar while speaking about the Unkal Lake development project said that the lake’s health is being taken care of as sewage water entering the lake has been diverted. This has reduced the amount of water hyacinth in the lake. In the second phase of the lake development project, the Government of Karnataka will build a 4.5 km walking path along with lawns, fountains, and mini bridges around the lake.

The authorities plan on turning the Unkal Lake Park into a tourist destination with water sports and boating activities. Since the state has a huge follower base of Swami Vivekananda, the authorities are planning to replace his statue with a bigger one and set up a museum.
