MANGALURU: The Karnataka Legislature Assurance Committee has instructed agriculture, horticulture and fisheries departments to conduct a study on pollution in special economic zones (SEZ).
The committee, which was chaired by BM Farooq, says that there is a need to conduct a study on paddy and other agricultural products, as well as on extinction of local varieties of fish, after the locals complained about pollution. KV Rajendra, deputy commissioner was told by the committee that water, ground water, air quality, and soil in SEZ need to be checked by an international level agency and the report be submitted to the committee.
