BENGALURU, Karnataka: The Karnataka High Court, in its recent order, has highlighted that the nominated members of the municipal councils cannot participate in the election process for the members of the Legislative Councils (MLC) from the constituencies of the urban local bodies (ULB).
The single bench of Justice Hemant Chandrangoudar noted that as per Article 243 (6) of the Constitution of India and the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act, the nominated members of the municipal corporation are not eligible to participate in the voting process for the election of MLCs and the council meetings.
