SRINAGAR: The first phase of the civic elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held on October 8. The Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections will be held in four phases, covering 79 municipal bodies. Three other phases of elections will take place on October 10, 13 and 16. On October 8, 2018 elections were held for 30 urban local bodies comprising 422 wards out of the total of 1,145. For the first time, EVMs are being used in the local elections of J&K. Elections are also being held for 149 seats in the Kashmir Valley and 26 in the Ladakh, Jammu and Pirpanjal region.
Mobile Internet services were temporarily suspended in south Kashmir in the view of the first phase of urban local bodies’ elections. The internet speed has been reduced, said, officials.
The results will be declared on October 20.
