J&K Govt. establishes high-level council for strategic urban planning

JAMMU: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has planned to set up the Union Territory Level High Powered Committee (UTLHPC).

The committee, which is led by the Chief Secretary, will collaborate with the Central High-Level Committee (CHLC) established by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, to identify gaps in urban planning in the union territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Housing and Urban Development Department’s committee will develop an action plan for putting the CHLC’s corrective actions and recommendations for improving urban planning in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir into practice.

The Chief Secretary of J&K will serve as Chairman of the committee, and the Administrative Secretary of the Housing and Urban Member-Development Department will serve as Convener.

The committee includes representatives of the World Resources Institute (WRI) India, the Indian Institute of Human Settlements (IIHS), Bengaluru, the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), New Delhi, the Janaagraha, Bengaluru, the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) New Delhi, and the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir.
