SRINAGAR: In a bid to reduce air pollution levels in the state, Srinagar city authorities would be commissioning a fleet of 20 electric buses for public service on July 8. The Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) has bought 40 e-buses from the central government’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing Hybrid and Electric (FAME) scheme. “The first fleet of electric buses will be launched today, July 8. More to follow. Charging stations are ready and up,” Shahid Choudhary, Srinagar Deputy Commissioner, said, adding that in the first phase, 20 such buses were being launched from the civil secretariat on July 8.

The FAME scheme would see J&K get 20 buses each and charging points for e-vehicles would also be installed. The project was scheduled for launch in the state some time ago but had to be delayed due to unfavorable conditions.
