JAIPUR: The Jaipur Development Authority has proposed to connect all the buildings at the SMS Hospital, also known as Sawai Man Singh Medical College and Hospital with skywalk corridor. The project is to be taken along with the construction of Inpatient Department (IPD) tower. The Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation is currently finalising the design of the project.
Under the project, four buildings of the SMS Campus, including Dhanwantari tower, Charak Bhawan, Bangad Hospital and Trauma Centre will be connected with the skywalk. An official of the civic body commented that the estimated cost of the project is Rs 5 crore. It is to be initiated under the construction project of IPD tower for the campus. The design of the project, after finalisation, will be sent to the Minister of Urban Development and Housing of the Government of Rajasthan for approval. According to the preliminary design, the skywalk will be constructed in the shape of a glass tube and it will be air conditioned. The length of the skywalk has been set at 800 metres at a height of 5.50 metres. Officials said that the civic body is exploring the possibilities of connecting the medical college building inside the hospital campus with the hospital building as well.
