PARIS: European Union’s climate monitoring system has reported that the month of January 2020 was the warmest January on record globally. The average measured European temperature was 3°C above the average of January’s between 1981 to 2010. Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said in statement, the temperatures were 6° above the 30-year average in many northern European countries.

Along with this, the climate change service also noted that 2019 was the second warmest year in record, only 0.04°C below the average temperature of 2016. This can be attributed to the massive spike in the atmospheric concentration of CO2, which is now at the highest in over 8,00,000 years.
