ITO Skywalk to be ready by October

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and PWD Minister Satyendra Jain Jain inspected ITO Skywalk site.

NEW DELHI: The work of the first SkyWalk under construction around the busy ITO crossing in central Delhi is likely to be completed next month. The Skywalk will be ready for use by September-end or early October, Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said on Saturday. Manish Sisodia and PWD Minister Satyendra Jain inspected the site.

Sisodia said the skywalk would be a “beautiful foot overbridge” and benefit at least 30,000 pedestrians who cross one of Delhi’s busiest intersections every day. This would be a beautiful infrastructure in the city. The over 600-metre-long skywalk will connect Sikandra Road, Mathura Road, Tilak Marg and Bahadurshah Zafar Marg with Pragati Maidan and ITO Metro stations and the Supreme Court.

People who faced difficulty in passing through crowded and traffic would also get rid of them. In this sense, it is also a good utility project. Work on this project was started in April and now more than 75 percent of the work has been completed. Soon this will be the glory of Delhi and people will come here to visit and see it. “It would be two new gifts for the people of Delhi before Diwali”, he added.

PWD minister Satyendra Jain said that the cost of this project is about Rs 54 crores. It is connected directly to the metro station.  “Solar panels will be installed over the skywalk, which will be illuminated in the night through the power generated. The skywalk will also be equipped with glass lifts and CCTV cameras. It will be very user-friendly”, he added.

Construction of the 615-metre skywalk began in November last year and was scheduled to be completed in March. The deadline was later shifted to May and then June.
