NEW DELHI: Italy has signed the International Solar Alliance (ISA) under the revised ISA Framework Agreement. The modifications to the Framework Agreement of the ISA entered into force, opening its membership to all member states of the United Nations. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, said that the Framework Agreement was inked by Vincenzo De Luca, the Italian Ambassador to India. The signed copies of the Agreement were accepted by Additional Secretary (Economic Relations), as the representative of MEA, which is the fiduciary of ISA Framework Agreement.
Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Foreign Secretary of India, met Vincenzo De Luca, Italian Ambassador to India, and welcomed Italy’s agreement to ISA. They also talked about Italy’s G20 presidency and Vaccine Maitri. The ISA was launched jointly by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the French President Emmanuel Macron during the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP21, in Paris. It intends to contribute to the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement through rapid and massive deployment of solar energy.
