Indore, Bhopal, and Ujjain rated cleanest cities: Swachh Survekshan 2019

NEW DELHI: Three cities of Madhya Pradesh secured top ranks in the Swachh Survekshan 2019, on March 6, 2019. The winners were announced by the Union Government at a function in New Delhi. Indore was awarded the cleanest city of India, Bhopal as the cleanest capital and Ujjain as the cleanest city (3 lakhs to one million categories).

Indore is now at the top spot in the survey for being the cleanest city for three consecutive years. Bhopal now has been rated as the cleanest capital for three years, in the survey dubbed as the largest of its kind in the world.

Municipal bodies of Delhi have failed to maintain their rankings in the survey, three of the five municipalities in Delhi rated much worse than their earlier ranks. New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), which was at the fifth rank, dropped one position, while South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) plummeted to the 138 from last year’s 32. However, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), which was at a historic low of 341 last year, has climbed up 101 spots. North Delhi Municipal Corporation has been adjudged the worst faring area in the capital with 282 rank. Last year, it was at 206th position. 

In the separate category of cantonment board rankings, Delhi Cantonment was judged the cleanest among 62 such areas across the country. It held the top spot last year too.
