Indirect elections in Coimbatore and Tirunelveli to fill up Mayor positions

CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu: The State Election Commission (SEC) announced that it has provided instructions and recommendations to district election officers/collectors on conducting indirect elections for Mayor positions in the municipal corporations of Coimbatore and Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.

B Jothi Nirmalasamy, Commissioner of SEC, stated that the commission has already instructed the district collectors to convene meetings to discuss indirect elections for the vacant positions in local bodies within their respective districts.

The need for an indirect election for the Mayor positions in Tirunelveli and Coimbatore arose following the resignations of Mayor PM Saravanan (Tirunelveli) and Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar (Coimbatore) due to personal reasons.
