NEW DELHI: Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved complete electrification of railway network, with an aim to transform the Indian Railways into green railways, powering it with renewable energy.
According to an official statement, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on December 2 between the Ministry of Railways and the Department for International Development (DID), the United Kingdom for collaboration on energy and sustainability, as a part of its obligations and commitment to reduce carbon footprints.
As per the
statement, the MoU will cover government’s policies regarding energy planning
for Indian Railways and 100 per cent greener sources of electricity supply
through renewable energy planning and utilisation.
