NEW DELHI: Indian Railways has successfully finished the 180-kilometre per hour (kmph) trial run of the new Vistadome coaches for tourists, said Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways; Minister of Commerce and Industry; Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. He also shared images of luxurious coaches, made by the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, on Twitter. Goyal wrote that with the successful speed trial of 180 km of the new special coaches, the year is ending on a great note. The coaches will make the train journeys, and hence the experience, more memorable for the commuters, which will help boost tourism.
According to a statement from the ministry in June 2020, the cost of manufacturing a single Vistadome coach is about Rs 4 crore. In addition to many luxurious features, the coaches have the standard safety measure and other measures such as glasses are shatter-resistant and film coating for passenger safety.
Goyal also announced the recommencement of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway services in Tamil Nadu. He also informed about the successful trial run of an electric locomotive on a recently electrified rail line, which runs between Bangaon and Petrapole, Bengal.
