NEW YORK: Anil Soni, Global Health Expert of Indian origin, has been appointed the first Chief Executive Officer of the newly launched The World Health Organisation (WHO) Foundation. The foundation works with WHO to address the most important health challenges of the world. Soni will take up his role as CEO of The WHO Foundation on January 1 next year.
The foundation said in its press release that Soni will work to invest in innovative, evidence-based initiatives that support WHO in delivering its mission to promote healthy life and well-being for all. The foundation, headquartered in Geneva, was launched in May 2020 to work alongside WHO.
The WHO Foundation said that Soni is a ‘seasoned global health expert’, who brings over two decades of experience working across the public and private sector to expand healthcare access in low and middle-income countries. He was actively involved in the initial years of the global fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, when he served as the Advisor to Executive Director from 2002-2004. He also served as the CEO of Clinton Health Access Initiative, where he worked from 2005-2010.
