DAVOS, Switzerland: Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, underscored India’s pivotal role in the global green energy sector during the CII-Bain session on the ‘Green Hydrogen Opportunity in India’ held in Davos, Switzerland.
He stated, “In the next 20 years, 25 per cent of the increase in global demand is going to come from India.”
He also mentioned the country’s cost advantage in producing green energy and electrolyzers. He stated, “We can significantly reduce the cost of production of green solar energy and electrolyzers.”
The key highlight of the session was the launch of the ‘Green Hydrogen: Enabling Measures Roadmap for Adoption in India’ study by Bain & Company and the World Economic Forum. The study emphasises green hydrogen’s critical role in achieving net zero targets and optimising India’s imports.
The session, which was a part of the high-profile Davos 2024 event, brought together key industry leaders, including Sumant Sinha, CEO of ReNew; Jörgen Sandström, Head of Transforming Industrial Ecosystems at World Economic Forum, and Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman, Indian Oil Corporation.
