India surpasses Brazil to become the 2nd worst hit nation by COVID-19

NEW DELHI: India has surpassed Brazil to become the nation with the second-highest COVID-19 cases in the world as the total tally of coronavirus infections went past 42 lakh on Monday, September 7. The caseload in India increased after the country reported 90,802 cases in the last 24-hours while Brazil’s COVID-19 tally stands at 41.3 lakh. With 62.5 lakh COVID-19 cases, the United States of America (USA) remains the most infected country. The overall fatalities have reached 71,642 after 1,016 COVID-19 deaths were registered in India in the last 24 hours. 

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the total COVID-19 caseload of 42,04,613 includes 8,82,542 active cases, 32,50,429 cured/discharged/migrated and 71,642 deaths. India has recorded significantly more number of daily infections than Brazil and the US in the past week. Furthermore, the experts have painted a bleak picture of the situation of COVID-19 in India, stating the peak situation in the country is yet to come, unlike the US and Brazil.

There have been over 2.7 crore confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide and more than 8.8 lakh people have succumbed to the deadly virus till date.
