India sees rise in solar power capacity by 18 times in seven years

NEW DELHI: Ashwini Choubey, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, informed that India’s recent share of non-fossil fuel-based installed capacity of electricity generation is more than 40 percent. Also, over the span of seven years, the capacity of India’s solar energy has increased by 18 times.

Choubey also mentioned that under the Unnat Jyoti by Adorable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme; around 36.78 crores have been distributed to intensify energy efficiency. The installed capacity of solar energy in India went from 2.63 gigawatt to 47.66 gigawatt from March 2014 to October 2021, he added. “It is very important to lay emphasis on the fact that no sector of India’s economy and no facet of its economic life should remain untouched by the concern for maintaining a low-carbon development pathway,” Choubey told the Lok Sabha.
