NEW DELHI: As India plans to restart the stalled economy by easing guidelines with the fourth rendition of the lockdown, an unprecedented surge in the number of virus positive cases has been observed since March 20. The number of cases reported on May 23, 24 and 25 are 6,654, 6,767 and 6,977, respectively.  taking the total to over 1.45 lakhs and casualties to 4,167. After this record daily spike, India has now become one of the top ten worst hit countries by Covid-19. Maharashtra has now crossed 50,000 mark and has been consistently the worst hit region of the nation. While Maharashtra has been the worst hit state ever since the outbreak grew in severity Over the last two months, India has increased its testing capacity by 100 times – from 1,000 tests per day in March to one lakh tests daily tests this month. Moreover the extensive inter state migration has attributed to the growth in the number of states that previously had curtailed the pandemic. Now, Bihar, the state where most of the migrant workers are from, has seen a surge in the cases to almost 3,000 and medical officials blame this on the influx of migrants for the spike.
