India plans to set up 100 new airports by 2024

NEW DELHI: By 2024, India will be adding a total of 100 airports to its existing 126 facilities. The plan comes as a part to revive the economy of the country by enhancing international trade. Connectivity of smaller towns and villages would be enhanced as a result of the proposed initiative which seeks to add approximately a thousand new routes to the existing infrastructure. Steps to start a plane-lease financing business in the country are also being discussed. In order to accommodate this new development, the domestic aircraft fleet is also planned to double from the existing figure to 1,200.

The Indian government has committed investments of 1 trillion rupees to build airports in the next 5 years. The Indian government will also encourage the use of drones and foresees the number of legal drones reaching a million by 2024, the people said. According to the government, the country will prepare drone corridors by 2021, and allow delivery of goods by drones by 2023.
