India crosses crucial landmark in COVID-19 vaccination by dispensing over 3.17 crore doses

New Delhi: India has crossed a crucial landmark in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. In the world’s largest vaccination programme, the aggregate number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed the 3.17crore mark. A total of 3,17,71,661 vaccine doses have been administered by the government so far.

However, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs has indicated concern over the slow pace of ongoing vaccination drive in India and observed that it will take many years to vaccinate the entire population.

According to a report on Demands for Grants of the Ministry of Home Affairs presented in Rajya Sabha on Monday, March 15, the committee takes note of the ongoing immunisation process for COVID-19 and observes that till now, less than one per cent of the Indian population has been vaccinated and at this rate it will take many years to vaccinate the entire population. Hence, the committee recommends that all frontline health workers and corona warriors, including Central Armed Police Forces and state and union territory police personnel, receive the recommended doses of vaccine. An attempt should be made to cover maximum people as early as possible.
