NEW DELHI: A special briefing was organised in Swaraj Dweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands on November 26 to brief Resident Heads of Missions of the G20 member countries, guests and international organisations as India will officially assume the Presidency on December 1, 2022.
The programme organised on this occasion recorded the participation of 40 Missions and International Organisations. At the event, participants were briefed by G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant and Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Chief Coordinator G20, on the substantive, operational and logistical aspects of various G20 interactions which will take place under the chairmanship of India.
The participants were also informed about the country’s vision outlined by the Prime Minister of India regarding the G20 Presidency, being highlighted in the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, or “One Earth One Family One Future.” G20 Sherpa also mentioned the statement given by the Prime Minister of India during the Bali Summit of G20, where he said that India’s presidency will be “inclusive, ambitious, decisive and action-oriented”.
India will preside over around 200 meetings where it will prioritise discussion on topics such as public digital goods and digital infrastructure; climate action, climate finance and technological collaborations; clean, sustainable, affordable and inclusive energy transition; accelerating progress on sustainable development goals (SDGs); women-led development and multilateral reforms.
Later 18th G20 Head of the state and Head of the Government Summit will be organised between September 9-10, 2023, in the national capital New Delhi. This summit will be the concluding event of all the G20 discussions and meetings involving ministers, senior officials, and members of civil societies.
