NEW DELHI: According to a paper published in Communications, the amount of emission by five countries namely India, China, the United States, the European Union and Russia, between 1991-2030, will induce extreme hot years every second year, in double the number of countries experiencing it right now. The study was led by scientists at ETH Zurich and Climate Analytics, which analysed the emissions by the top five countries over two periods of 1991-2030 and 2016-2030.

The study suggested that at the end of amount, these countries will contribute 52 per cent and 53 per cent of global emissions, respectively. As per the current scenario, 92 per cent of all countries are expected to experience severe hot years every second year till 2030.

The study also looked at the per capita emissions of these five economies and found that all the countries have almost similar projected per capita emissions as the US, which is the highest per capita emitter in the group, for the period after Paris Agreement (2016-2030). India has the lowest per capita emission in the high emitters group.
