INDORE: Residential and commercial buildings in Indore are all set to be equipped to have rainwater harvesting systems. This was made aware of by the announcement from Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) that it is going to make roof top rainwater harvesting compulsory in all buildings that are constructed on a minimum area of 1000 square feet area. Pratibha Pal, Municipal Commissioner, IMC, told the Times of India that the civic body has already flagged off the permissions to have rooftop harvesting compulsory in all buildings, within a month time. This will entail all the new and old buildings and this plan has also been included in the vision plan of the year 2022. According to the civic body officials, rainwater harvesting is one way to halt the depleting ground water level.
There are almost around 18,000 buildings including both government and private buildings which already have rain water harvesting plants and if a 100 square metre building has such a system, it conserves around 50,000 litres of rain water.
