Hurun India Rich List: Mumbai overtakes Beijing as ‘billionaire capital of Asia’

MUMBAI, Maharashtra: In a recently released Hururn India Rich List 2024, Mumbai has overtaken Beijing as the “billionaire capital of Asia” with 92 billionaires, while Beijing’s count stood at 91.

As per the report in the recent year, the number of new entries to the billionaires’ list increased by 58; with this, their total number has gone up to 386. The financial capital is followed by Delhi with 217 rich list entries, including the 18 who were added in the past year. 

Similarly, Hyderabad has overtaken Bengaluru and has secured third position in the list of Indian cities, with the addition of 17 new entries increasing their number to 104. The number of rich entries in Bengaluru stands at 100. Other than that, Chennai with 82 entries, Kolkata with 69, Ahmedabad with 67, Pune with 53, Surat with 28, and Gurugram with 23 have also made it into the top 10. 

Hurun India list noted that Mumbai surpassed China to become “Asia’s billionaire epicentre” in March 2024 when it became home to 92 billionaires, while Beijing’s count stood at 91. 

When it comes to the number of ultra-rich individuals, meaning having a total wealth of $445 billion, it increased to 26, while the number of such individuals in the Chinese capital stood at 18. 

Globally, Mumbai is placed in third place, following New York with its 119 billionaires and London with its 97 billionaires.
