PALAMPUR: Jai Ram Thakur, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh sanctioned the development projects worth Rs 50 crore during his two-day visit to Palampur. Vinay Sharma, District president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shared this information on November 25.
The BJP leader said in a press conference that the CM laid the foundation stone of Rs 25 crore water supply scheme for the town, which would cater to the needs of half of the Palampur constituency.
He said that a six-storey parking project, which had been pending since 2008, had been sanctioned. Its foundation stone was earlier laid down twice by the two Chief Ministers Prem Kumar Dhumal and Virbhadhra Singh, but the project failed to take off. CM said that the state government would provide funds for the project through the state Department of Urban Development.
He further said that the CM had promised to release Rs 10 crore for the project within two months. The Municipal Council provided six canals for the project.
He said that the CM released Rs 5 crore for the construction of Palampur Circuit House. The previous government had earmarked Rs 50 lakh for the project, but the construction work was stopped midway due to the lack of funds. When the issue was brought to the notice of the CM, he immediately directed the Principal Secretary, PWD, to release Rs 5 crore for the project.
Sharma also said that the CM gave in principle approval for the creation of the Palampur Municipal Corporation after the completion of the tenure of panchayats.
Amount worth Rs 16 crore had been approved for two water supply schemes in the Kandwari and Gopal areas.
Three tube wells were also sanctioned for the town.
