CHENNAI: Heavy rains continued in Tamil Nadu on Friday which resulted in the death of seven people and water logging in many parts of the state. Officials from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the deep depression over Gulf of Mannar near Ramanathapuram weakened into a depression. Heavy rains are predicted by the officials for the next two days in Tamil Nadu. They added that the depression remained stationary for 18 hours and then weakened into depression.
Almost 27,391 people including 4,873 children have been evacuated and moved to the relief camps across the state. The heavy rains have destroyed the crops of more than 40 hectares area. Edappadi Palaniswami, Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu, has declared public holiday on December 4 for Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Thoothukudi.
