Chandigarh: The government of Punjab announced the launch of ‘Tandarust Punjab’ (Healthy Punjab) campaign on Wednesday 30th May. According to the notification issued by the Punjab department of science, technology, and environment, “The main goal of the mission will be to provide clean drinking water, improved air quality, ensuring the growth and consumption of unadulterated food and food products, and to improve the health condition of people of Punjab.”
A task force would oversee the program implementation on regular basis and it will be reviewed monthly. In its implementation chief secretary will be the chairperson, principal secretary (environment) will be the vice-chairman, and other principal secretaries from various departments will be involved in its implementation.
The department of transport will initiate regular drives for vehicular pollution check and department of environment will start laying protocols for water in rural and urban areas as a priority agenda.
The department of environment will also undertake regular monitoring to ensure ambient air quality, and will also create awareness against crop residue burning and implement the NGT order in this regard. It will also keep checks of Industrial pollution and will ensure the emission of gases from industry within laid down norms, and it will also ensure the use of bio-medical waste as per the prescribed rules.
