CHANDIGARH, Haryana: In order to resolve the issue of legacy waste, Sanjeev Kaushal, Chief Secretary of Haryana, directed the officials to expedite the processing of legacy waste in Bandhwari landfill site in Gurugram by November. The directive came during a virtual meeting with officials from the Department of Urban Local Bodies and Municipal Corporation of Gururam.
An official also informed that the Faridabad Municipal Corporation is developing a decentralised waste processing facility with a waste processing capacity of around 890 tonne per day (TPD). Also, construction work is likely to commence in the next 15 days on a new waste processing facility in Mujhari landfill site. New facility will be developed at a cost of ₹171.95 lakh and will be able to process 259 TPD.
Similarly, another waste processing facility, worth ₹167.67 lakh and with a capacity of 250 TPD, is being developed at Pratapgarh processing site. Chief Secretary also asked the officials to ensure that refuse-derived fuel is disposed of in time with the help of GPS-enabled vehicles.
Chef Secretary also asked the officials to identify two more landfill sites in Gurugram in a time bound manner.
Gurugram Municipal Corporations (GMC) informed the Chief Secretary that balance 25,000 metric tonnes of refuse fuel will be disposed of by September 30, at JBM waste-to-energy plant (WTE) facility. GMC Commissioner informed that the local body has identified a new dumping site in Bandhwari, and fresh dumping of waste has started on the site since April 15. Chief Secretary asked the GMC Commissioner to finalise the deadlines of the target and designate officers responsible for achieving the targets.
