CHANDIGARH: The Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday, December 27, announced that the state has extended the deadline to submit the property tax in cities from December 31, 2022, to January 31, 2023.

However, people depositing their property tax before December 31 would get a 100 per cent interest waiver, while those submitting their property tax between December 31, 2022, and January 31, 2023, would get waiver for only 50 per cent of the interest amount.

The Chief Minister spoke during the discussion on a calling attention motion in the Assembly. He said that the state government is also working to find ways to regularise the illegally developed colonies beyond the urban limits, and rules are being amended for this purpose. Khattar added that old areas of the cities, where such colonies are situated, would be declared as the ‘core area’. People residing in those areas for more than 50 years would be allowed to mix land, as land in these areas falls neither under the residential category nor under the commercial category.

Dr Kamal Gupta, Minister for Urban Local Bodies, Government of Haryana, said that the state recorded an increase of more than 33 per cent in the number of properties since the government decided to create new property IDs. The Minister also said, “Earlier, the number of properties (in all the six clusters) assessed for house tax across the state was 32,06,839, the total tax assessment of which was ₹540.56 crore. Currently, the tax assessment of the surveyed properties has gone up to ₹924.11 crore.”
