RRTS corridor to boost mobility in NCR

NEW DELHI: The Haryana Cabinet approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB (Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror) Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor to boost regional mobility in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Cabinet has approved the gross contribution of Rs 6,436 crore towards the project cost. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) Board is the implementing agency for the project. It had approved the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB corridor (106 km) DPR in December 2018.

As per the plan, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB corridor will be implemented in three stages. In the first stage, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB Urban Complex will be constructed. In the second stage, it will be extended from SNB Urban Complex to Sotanala and in the final stage SNB Urban Complex to Alwar will be constructed.

The corridor will be elevated for about 71 km (11 stations) and will be constructed underground for 35 km (5 stations). It will converge with other RRTS corridors in Sarai Kale Khan. It will be interoperable, facilitating commuters’ movement from one corridor to another without the hassle of changing trains. The corridor will be integrated with other modes of transport in NCR.

The RRTS trains with the operation speed of 160 km/h and average speed of 100 km/h will be available at a frequency of every 5-10 minutes. After construction, the corridor is expected to bring down the travel time between Delhi-SNB to about 70 minutes.

The RRTS smart line will pass through the urbanized and industrialized areas of Haryana and connect Delhi airport with the RRTS network, increasing the overall productivity of NCR. The corridor is expected to strengthen the regional transport infrastructure by providing a fast, safe, comfortable and reliable mobility option to the residents of Delhi, Gurugram, Rewari, Manesar, Daruheda, Bawal, and nearby areas.

The trains will be air-conditioned with transverse seating and overhead luggage space for commuter comfort. There would be priority seating arrangements for people with special needs, a business class coach and ladies coach in every train.

The trains connecting Delhi to nearby regions will beneficial in decongesting Delhi and its roads. It will provide citizens the choice to live and work in different regions. It will also bring economic benefits to the society, including effectively curbing pollution, improving safety and reliability of commute and creating employment as well as new economic opportunities, the release said.
