VISAKHAPATNAM: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is going to launch a ‘model ward’ programme in collaboration with Dhan Foundation, a non-government organisation. This programme would be useful for comprehensive development and spread awareness on best practices concerning women empowerment.
Dhan Foundation works towards skill development of children and women part of self-help groups. G Hari Venkata Kumari, Mayor, GVMC, said that an awareness drive should be conducted in schools on the topics related to drug abuse, communication skills and others. Under this programme, few wards will be adopted and free medical tests will be provided to the members of these wards.
K Rama Prabha, Regional Coordinator, Dhan Foundation, said that the Foundation has been successfully carrying out programmes concerning women empowerment in Visakhapatnam for almost 23 years now. This programme will be carried out both in educational institutions and wards.
