Gujarat provides financial aid to 700 kids orphaned due to COVID

GANDHINAGAR: The Government of Gujarat on Wednesday, July 7, disbursed the monthly financial assistance of Rs 4,000 each to more than 700 children in the state who have lost both their parents due to COVID-19. The official said that at least 776 children, who have lost both their parents to the disease, received the monthly assistance of Rs 4,000 each under Bal Seva Yojana, a state government initiative for COVID orphan kids.

The state government announced the scheme on May 31 with an aim to provide monthly assistance to children under the age of 18 who have lost both the parents due to COVID-19. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani attended the virtual ceremony to deposit the money in bank accounts of 776 children which were identified beneficiaries.

As per the official release, Rajkot district saw maximum number of such kids (58), followed by Ahmedabad (42), Sabarkantha (36), Vadodara (32) and 30 each in Panchmahal and Navari. If the children continue their studies, they will get an assistance of Rs 6,000 per month until they turn 21.
