Gujarat announces EV policy, predicts 1.1 lakh EVs on road by 2023

GANDHINAGAR: Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani announced on Tuesday, June 22, the “Gujarat Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2021” which targets to put two lakh EVs on the roads in next four years. The Government of Gujarat will also provide subsidies to the people from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1,50,000 on the purchase of EVS to encourage them to switch to EVs.

CM Rupani said that it is estimated that around 1.10 lakh electric two-wheel EVs, 70,000 three-wheelers and 20,000 four-wheelers will be used in the state in the next four years. The state government will provide a subsidy of Rs 20,000 for two wheelers, Rs 50,000 for three wheelers and Rs 1,50,000 will be given on four wheelers.

According to a rough estimate, the EV policy of the state will help to save worth Rs 5 crore of fuel every year and the carbon emissions will be reduced by six lakh tonnes, annually. The policy also includes the focus on providing the battery charging infrastructure of e-vehicles. 278 charging stations are approved, mostly on the highways, and the state government is planning to add another 250 in the future.
