AHMEDABAD: Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) is all set to lay down water supply networks in areas that come under its jurisdiction, after prolonged pleas of the residents for quality water supply.  Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA) has approved the bids for the first phase of the project and the work for same has also commenced.

Phase 1 of the water distribution line project was launched in wake of the increased number of cases of cholera in the nearby Kalol town of Gandhinagar district, and the project costed around Rs 25 crore, GUDA sources said.  “Kalol Taluka reported the first case of cholera on July 3. Around 300 people in the vicinity were suspected to have contracted the bacterial infection,” said a GMC official. The incident augmented the process. Moreover, plans are being devised to cover the entire area via piped water supply network.  This decision has brought a sense of relief amongst the residents living in peripheral areas of the GMC.
