Bengaluru: Eco-Friendly cabs soon to hit roads of Bengaluru after a long delay, by the end of this month. Uber, a peer to peer ridesharing and taxi service giant, will sign a MoU with GAIL Gas Limited to launch ‘Hasiru Bengaluru’ (Green Bengaluru) on June 20 to roll out eco-friendly compressed natural gas (CNG) cabs in the city.

Zib Cabs another city-based private aggregator will also launch eco-friendly cabs on June 25, both the taxi firms are likely to operate CNG cabs on airport route in the first phase.

“Bengaluru has a long gap to fill when it comes to adoption of environment-friendly fuels due to lack of awareness among populace and shortage of CNG filling stations. To bridge this gap, GAIL gas and UBER are launching a joint initiative called ‘Green Bengaluru” to make Bengaluru a greener and a cleaner city” said an Uber spokesperson.

Mohammed Mansoor, CEO, Zib Cabs, said in the first phase of their plan they are going to roll out 50 CNG cabs on airport route that offer affordable fare for passengers.
