NEW DELHI: The Central Government is planning to ease construction and funding norms for ‘Housing for All’ scheme in order to boost the construction of affordable houses across the nation. The scheme was launched in year 2015 with an aim to provide houses to all by 2022 along with basic civic services.
As per the reports, the changes which are under consideration are allowing access to institutional credit to the poor, relaxation in eligibility criteria for loans from banks and switching to a life cycle cost approach to the construction of low cost houses and also to ensure the good quality of construction.
As per the senior government officials, “The Rural Development Ministry along with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) have been asked to look into the possible and better ways to boost up the construction of houses under PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural and Urban). The official stated that the concept ‘rental cum ownership housing’ can be introduced in some areas subject to conditions.
