NEW DELHI: Government schools in India will start providing sanitary napkins at the homes of girl students in classes 6 to 12 on a monthly basis. The directorate of school education wrote a letter addressed to the district education officers on Thursday, December 18, in which schools were asked to make arrangements for proving sanitary napkins to students who have not been visiting school due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The department will be delivering sanitary napkins in addition to the monthly midday meal ration. Due to the pandemic, the midday meals are being supplied to the student at their residents.
Suman Sharma, the principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 4 said that the school has already obtained supplies for two months and would start the distribution from Friday, December 19. She also added that the school is trying to involve female teachers for the distribution process so as the parents and the students are not hesitant to accept the supplies.
