CHENNAI: The Government of Tamil Nadu announced on Thursday, November 4, that Tambaram and adjoining municipalities, town panchayats, and village panchayats in Chennai would be merged to form the Tambaram Municipal Corporation.
Following this announcement, an explanatory statement was published in the state gazette which said that considering the rapid pace of urbanization in the state, it is important to reorganize the urban local bodies. The municipalities of Tambaram, Pallavaram, Pammal, Anakaputhar, and Sembakkam and town panchayats of Chitlapakkam, Madambakkam, and Tiruneermalai located to the south of Chennai city are urbanizing rapidly and they need to be merged to work as a single unit, it added.
Besides offering an appropriate administrative setup, it will also help in the efficient optimization of resources for effective delivery of services to the general public, the government said.
