NEW DELHI: The government of India has decided to set up a council for promotion of exports of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Sidha and Homeopathy) products. The Ministry of Finance, Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of AYUSH have decided to work together on this. The council will connect with the Bureau of Indian Standards as well, to help develop international standards for AYUSH products and services.
In a joint review meeting held virtually, Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Shripad Naik, Minister of AYUSH, it was also decided that that the entire AYUSH sector will work in unison to achieve price and quality competitiveness, which will ultimately help in boosting its exports. Naik mentioned the world growing need of AYUSH- based solutions for disease resistance and treatment during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that the AYUSH sector will need to upscale quickly to meet the growing demands from India and abroad and to cater to the larger number of people who are now looking up to these systems for maintaining their health.
