GoI releases Rs 1154.90 crore grants for urban local bodies

NEW DELHI: The Government of India on Monday, February 14, released grants worth Rs 1154.90 crore to four states namely Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Sikkim. The fund was released to provide grants to urban local bodies of the states.

Rs 769 crore has been released to Bihar. Andhra Pradesh received Rs 225.60 crore, Gujarat received Rs 165.30 and Sikkim received Rs 5 crore. According to the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, the grants released are meant for non-million plus cities, including Cantonment Boards.

The 15th Finance Commission divided urban local bodies into two categories – Million-plus urban agglomerations/cities and Non-million plus cities (all other cities and towns with less than one million population). The commission recommends separate grants for the two categories of cities.
