GANDHINAGAR: Government of India has approved Rs 12,020.32 crore for the Surat Metro Rail Project and has directed Gujarat government to complete the work in five years.
A meeting was held on December 8 in Gandhinagar to review the progress of metro rail projects in the state. Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat chaired the meeting and S S Rathore, Managing Director, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) also attended the meet.
Work for the Surat Metro Rail Project will start in June 2020 and is expected to be completed by June 2024. As per a statement released by the Government of Gujarat, tendering and detailed designing work for the project has been initiated. As per the plan, there will be 14 elevated stations on a 21.61 km stretch between Sarthana and Dream City.
According to the statement, the 18.74 km track will be laid between Bhensaan and Saroli, there will be 18 elevated stations. The total length of the track is 40.35 km. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Social Impact Assessment (SIA) has been done for the project.
