PANAJI, Goa: The third State Finance Commission (SFC), constituted to make recommendations for the devolution of taxes to urban and rural local bodies in Goa, has submitted its report for 2024-2029 to state Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai. In its five-year fiscal report, SFC has recommended strengthening local bodies in the state. The report will now be presented in the state assembly for approval.
An official informed, “These recommendations accord with the Constitution of India and the report will go to the cabinet and the assembly for acceptance”. The official added, “The recommendations are basically on the devolution of fund and taxes to municipalities, village panchayats, and zilla panchayats”.
The report is now in the hands of the state cabinet, and a 40-member state legislative assembly convened for the budget session. Earlier, the recommendations suggested by the second SFC haven’t been implemented in the past.
