GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) will launch special cleaning drive to check the spread of viral fevers and dengue in the city. Under the drive, primarily the corporation has decided to clean the vacant lands in the city. The corporation has already identified 3,000 vacant stretches of land. The revenue officials will first send notices to the owners of vacant land, requesting them to clean their lands before April 30. If due to any reason the land owners did not respond to the corporation, the GMC will fill pits in the lands and clean it with the help of JCBs and collect those expenses from the land owners with penalty.
Following the instructions of Srikesh B Lathkar, Commissioner of GMC, the revenue collection officials of the corporation collecting details of vacant land owners had begun an exercise to issue notices to them.
The GMC is also conducting rallies with students to create awareness about the cleanliness of the city and prevention of spreading of viral fever and other harmful diseases.
In addition to clearing of vacant land areas, GMC has directed its Public Health Department to speed up restoration of roads, where underground pipelines were laid. The GMC is also looking to take up desilt works and clean the drains for smooth flow of waste water in it.
The GMC has decided to implement door-to-door collection of waste to avoid dumping of garbage on road, and will impose penalty on those who found dumping garbage on roads.
