GUWAHATI, Assam: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has announced an initiative of door-to-door collection of property taxes where the Home Tax Collectors will personally visit property owners to collect outstanding taxes.
The GMC will appoint women from local Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as Home Tax Collectors with POS machines, in order to make the process of property tax payment easier and to eradicate any confusion faced by the taxpayers.
The GMC has also announced the deadline of March 31 for mandatory payment of property taxes. Property owners can also pay their taxes online at their official website.
Last year, the GMC had conducted an Amnesty Campaign under which property tax defaulters were allowed to pay the pending property taxes at discounted prices. Although this year, GMC has clearly mentioned that it will impose penalties if property owners fail to pay their dues.
