GHMC focuses on infra development in its budget

HYDERABAD: The annual budget of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for the financial year 2022-23 was approved at Rs 6,150 crore by its standing committee on March 16. The GHMC has increased its budget by Rs 550 crore in comparison to that of previous year. The Revised Budget Estimate for the fiscal year 2021-22 has been increased to Rs 6,300 crore.

Out of the Rs 6,150 crore budget for this fiscal year, revenue income is Rs 3,434 crore and the capital expenditure for work on sanitation, road infrastructure, drains, greenery, and other development works is Rs 3,350 crore. The budget noted that the corporation is expecting to collect Rs 1700 crore through property tax, Rs 63 crore through trade license fee, and Rs 1200 crore through other revenue generation activities which are executed by the town planning wing.

Projects like Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (Rs 258 crore), works on Strategic Road Development Plan (Rs 714.49), and Strategic Nala Development Programme (Rs 340 crore) have received major spending in the budget. Rs 1140 crore has been allocated for health and sanitation works.

In addition to the annual budget, the standing committee approved five civic works and the proposals to continue Rs 5 meals through Annapurna Canteens.
