HYDERABAD: Initiatives to reduce water body pollution are underway in various parts of the city of Hyderabad. With reducing water pollution in lakes as the primary goal, the Government of Telangana has initiated the work for the same. Moreover, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will also be reviewing the rebuilding work of urban lakes that were polluted due to excessive urbanisation.
Main problems affecting water bodies are being solved by the implementation of the Dial-A-Septic Tank service by GHMC. New septic tanks are being deployed, which will transport fecal matter and treat it at a fecal sludge treatment plant near Nalla Cheruvu, Uppal. Private companies have joined hands with the state government by adopting 10 lakes. Sewer diversion work is currently in process at Durgam Cheruvu and work to stop sewage flow into Lake Barla Kunta, Gachibowli has consummated. Furthermore, a big step for the rejuvenation of city lakes is GHMC’s approval for funds for developments of 63 new lakes.
“We plan to install floating garbage collectors over large lakes,” stated an official of the Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development of the Government of Telangana.
