HYDERABAD: In order to reduce lakhs of rupees worth monthly electricity bills, circle offices of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have shifted over to solar power systems. In order to implement this, GHMC and Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) have jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This MoU has been signed for the installation of solar photovoltaic plant worth Rs 3.50 crore, as per an official press release on Monday, November 29. Total 34 GHMC offices are running on the solar power systems. The project costs worth Rs 3.5 crore including design, supply and installation. The officials are assured of the fact that energy generation would be 15 lakh units a year which could save over Rs 1.30 crore worth of savings on power bills for the municipal corporation. Moreover, few buildings have been successful in meeting the power supply-demand through electricity generated by solar panels and have maintained zero bill status.
GHMC has been trying to make efforts on cutting down its power bills by tapping the solar energy that is available in abundance during most of the seasons.
